Founded by John Lynch in 1972, Lynch & Newman is a family-owned boutique law practice with a focus on the areas estate planning, trust and estate administration, elder law, real estate and corporate law. Lynch & Newman also provides closing services for real estate transactions and on-site title searches and services through Coastal Title Company.

Matthew H Newman
PRINCIPAL
A native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Matt fell in love with New England while in high school when he attended St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire. A graduate of the University of Michigan, Matt also holds a Master’s Degree from Oxford University, England. Prior to obtaining his law degree from the University of Virginia, Matt was a business consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLC in Washington, D.C. Matt was a member of the corporate practice group at Pierce Atwood, LLP in Portland, Maine before partnering with Jack in 2006 to form Lynch & Newman.
Matt currently serves on the Boards of First Federal Savings Bank and Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust (formerly Damariscotta River Association). He previously served on the Board of Trustees of the Topsham Public Library from 2010-2016, serving as its President for several years. When he is not practicing law, Matt can be found walking in the woods with his yellow lab and officemate, Reggie. Or coaching his kids’ soccer teams. Matt lives in Topsham, Maine with his wife Suzanna and their children Alex and Lily.

Born in Boston to Irish parents, Jack received his undergraduate degree from St. Mary’s University, Halifax, NS, and received his law degree from Dalhousie University, also in Halifax. He began his legal career in 1970 with the United States Marine Corps as a legal officer with the First Marine Division. Jack attended the Naval Justice School in Newport, RI, after which he served as a Chief Defense Counsel for First Marine Division in Vietnam.
Jack has long been an active member of the Damariscotta community, having served as President of the Board of Trustees for Lincoln Academy, Board of Trustees for Skidompha Public Library, and the Damariscotta Appeals Board. He also served as President of the Parish Counsel for St. Patrick’s Church. He is currently on the Board of Directors for the Lincoln County Theatre.
Jack lives in Damariscotta with his wife Martha. They have two grown daughters. When not at the office, Jack can be found either building stonewalls with his tractor or playing with his grandchildren.
